Psyllium husks are a rich source of soluble fiber. The powder swells to many times its original volume when combined with water. So-called mucilage polysaccharides are found in the husks of the seeds and are responsible for the pronounced swelling behavior and high water retention. These mucilage substances naturally increase the feed volume and are thus excellently suited as a low-carbohydrate satiety supplement.
